Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV vs Toyota Fortuner in Pakistan (October 2026): Prices, Specs and Running Costs

· 0 Views · 13 min read

Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV vs Toyota Fortuner price comparison Pakistan 2026

The short version: The Tiggo 9 PHEV costs Rs 14,299,900 on Chery Pakistan's Tiggo 9 page, down from Rs 14,899,900, with a free 7 kW home charger worth Rs 100,000 for early bookings. That puts it between the Toyota Fortuner V petrol (Rs 14,935,000) and the cheaper G petrol (Rs 12,435,000), and Rs 4.2–6.2 million below the diesel Sigma 4, Legender and GR-S. The Tiggo 9 is faster, better equipped and much cheaper to run if you charge it at home. The Fortuner is the tougher off-roader, with 279 mm of ground clearance, a low-range 4x4 on four of its five versions, a 57-dealer network and a long resale record.

We checked every price and spec in this guide on the makers' own sites on 22 October 2026: Chery Pakistan's Tiggo 9 page and Tiggo 9 brochure, and the Toyota Indus Fortuner page and Toyota Indus Fortuner spec sheet. Running costs and the Auto Policy scenario are our own estimates, and we state every assumption. Tiggo 9 PHEV vs Fortuner price in Pakistan (October 2026)

Chery sells one Tiggo 9 version in Pakistan, the Tiggo 9 Premium (AWD). Toyota Indus sells five Fortuner versions. Toyota's prices are suggested retail prices, ex-factory Karachi, and include 25% sales tax.

Tiggo 9 offer details. Chery Pakistan's page calls the Rs 14,299,900 figure an "Introductory Offer" with "New Price and Tax Locked", and says buyers save up to Rs 600,000. A 7 kW home charger worth Rs 100,000 is included, and the page says the offer is "valid for early bookings only". Chery does not publish an end date, so get the price, the tax lock and the charger written on your booking form. For how Chery handled the same kind of offer on smaller models, see our Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid price cut report and the Tiggo 8 Super Hybrid offer.

Fortuner notes. The cheapest Fortuner G is the only two-wheel-drive version. The Fortuner V adds part-time 4x4 with the same 2.7-litre petrol engine. The Fortuner Sigma 4, Fortuner Legender and Fortuner GR-S all use the 2.8-litre turbo diesel. Registration, token tax and insurance are extra on both cars.

Sources: Chery Pakistan's Tiggo 9 page and brochure. Toyota Indus's Fortuner spec sheet and Legender brochure. Toyota does not publish a fuel average, a 0–100 time or a towing limit for the Fortuner on its Pakistan site, and Chery does not publish kerb weight, boot volume or towing for the Tiggo 9. We have left those gaps blank rather than fill them with figures from other markets.

What the numbers mean

  • Speed: the Tiggo 9 has about three times the Fortuner diesel's power and nearly twice its torque. Its 5.4-second 0–100 km/h claim is sports-car pace. No Fortuner is built for that.
  • Rough roads: the Fortuner sits 96 mm higher than an unloaded Tiggo 9 and 132 mm higher than a loaded one. Add a body-on-frame chassis, low-range gearing, a rear diff lock and downhill assist (on the 4x4s), and the Fortuner is the one for the northern areas, unpaved farm roads and river crossings. The Tiggo 9's AWD helps on wet or loose surfaces, and Chery lists Snow, Sand and Off-road modes, but it is a road-biased SUV.
  • Space: both are seven-seaters. The Tiggo 9 is 70 mm wider with a 55 mm longer wheelbase. The Fortuner's third row folds 50:50 and reclines. The Tiggo 9's third row folds flat 50:50 and gets its own air conditioning.
  • Kit and safety: the Tiggo 9 has heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, heated and ventilated second-row seats, adaptive cruise, lane-keeping, blind-spot detection, a 540-degree camera and automatic parking. The Fortuner's spec sheet lists front and rear parking sensors on the 4x4s, a rear camera, cruise control and stability control with hill-start assist.

Running cost per month (estimate)

This is the biggest money difference between the two cars after the purchase price. The figures below are estimates, not test results. Our assumptions:

  • 1,500 km a month, a typical family mix of city driving and one or two intercity trips.
  • Petrol at Rs 382.02 and high-speed diesel at Rs 389.80 a litre, the OGRA prices in force from 21 October 2026 (see our Autowheels fuel price page).
  • Fortuner fuel averages as listed on Autowheels: 9 km/L for the G, 8 km/L for the V and 10 km/L for the diesels. Toyota Indus does not publish an official figure.
  • Tiggo 9: Chery's 16.6 km/L claim when running as a hybrid, plus a more cautious 12 km/L case. On electricity we assume 0.27 kWh per km from the wall, including charging losses, at Rs 60 per unit. The NEV Policy 2025–30 uses the same Rs 60 tariff in its own cost example. Your rate will depend on your tariff slab and whether you have solar.
Car and use caseEnergy used per monthCost per month (estimate)Cost per km
Fortuner G petrol (9 km/L)167 L petrolRs 63,670Rs 42.4
Fortuner V petrol (8 km/L)188 L petrolRs 71,629Rs 47.8
Fortuner diesel (10 km/L)150 L dieselRs 58,470Rs 39.0
Tiggo 9, never charged (12 km/L)125 L petrolRs 47,752Rs 31.8
Tiggo 9, never charged (16.6 km/L claim)90 L petrolRs 34,520Rs 23.0
Tiggo 9, 50% of km on electricity202 kWh + 45 L petrolRs 29,410Rs 19.6
Tiggo 9, 80% of km on electricity (charged nightly)324 kWh + 18 L petrolRs 26,344Rs 17.6

What this means: a Tiggo 9 that is charged every night could cost about Rs 32,126 a month less to run than a diesel Fortuner, and about Rs 45,285 less than a Fortuner V petrol, on these assumptions. Over a year that is roughly Rs 385,512 against the diesel. Even if you never plug it in, our cautious 12 km/L case is still cheaper than any Fortuner. Remember that the Tiggo 9 uses petrol, not diesel, when the battery is flat. Servicing costs are not compared here, because neither maker publishes a service price list for these models on its Pakistan site.

Resale and ownership factors

We do not have reliable resale percentages for either car, so we will not guess. These are the facts that do affect ownership:

  • Track record. The Fortuner is a long-running Toyota Indus model with a large used market. You can check current asking prices in our used Fortuner listings. The Tiggo 9 is a 2026 launch in Pakistan, so there is no used-price history yet. Check used Tiggo 9 listings as owners start to sell.
  • Dealer network. Toyota Indus's booking form lists 57 dealerships across Pakistan, including smaller cities such as D.G. Khan, D.I. Khan, Chakwal, Sukkur and Quetta. Chery Pakistan's contact form lists 10, in Lahore, Islamabad, Karachi, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan. If you live outside the big cities, check how far your nearest Chery workshop is.
  • Warranty. Chery offers 6 years or 150,000 km, and 8 years or 160,000 km on the battery. Toyota's Legender brochure quotes 3 years or 100,000 km, and Toyota Indus sells an extended warranty and prepaid maintenance.
  • Battery and charging. To get the Tiggo 9's low running costs you need a place to charge, ideally overnight at home. The free 7 kW charger helps. A home charger may also need a wiring check and, for some homes, a higher sanctioned load.
  • Tax risk. Plug-in hybrid tax is still under discussion with the IMF (see below). That can move PHEV prices, new and used, in either direction. Fortuner prices face the reported 10% levy risk instead.
  • Diesel and petrol choice. Fortuner buyers in Pakistan often choose diesel for torque and towing. Chery has not put a towing limit in writing for the Tiggo 9, although its brochure lists a trailer hook.

Draft Auto Policy 2026-31: what it could do to these prices

Important: the Auto Policy 2026-31 is still a draft. Reported policy details say the Prime Minister approved it in principle on 20 October 2026, but it still needs federal cabinet approval and IMF clearance. No SRO, Finance Act change or effective date has been issued. Every figure below is a draft estimate. Our Auto Policy 2026-31 levy explainer covers the whole draft.

Fortuner: reported 10% levy on cars above 2,000cc

Every Fortuner is above 2,000cc. The G and V use the 2,694cc 2TR-FE petrol, and the Sigma 4, Legender and GR-S use the 2,755cc 1GD-FTV diesel. We apply the reported 10% levy to today's listed price and assume it is passed on in full. If the final law charges it on the pre-tax value, the increase would be smaller.

VariantEnginePrice today10% levy (draft estimate)Price with levy (draft estimate)
Fortuner G2,694ccRs 12,435,000Rs 1,243,500Rs 13,678,500
Fortuner V2,694ccRs 14,935,000Rs 1,493,500Rs 16,428,500
Fortuner Sigma 42,755ccRs 18,539,000Rs 1,853,900Rs 20,392,900
Fortuner Legender2,755ccRs 19,569,000Rs 1,956,900Rs 21,525,900
Fortuner GR-S2,755ccRs 20,499,000Rs 2,049,900Rs 22,548,900

Tiggo 9 PHEV: reported 9% sales tax for plug-in hybrids

Chery does not say which sales tax rate is built into the Rs 14,299,900 price, only that it is "tax locked". So we show two scenarios. In each, we back today's tax out of the price and apply the reported 9% PHEV rate instead. The Tiggo 9's 170 km electric range is well above the 50 km threshold reported for the PHEV category.

ScenarioPrice todayPrice at 9% (draft estimate)Change (draft estimate)
Today's price includes 18% sales taxRs 14,299,900Rs 13,209,230About Rs 1,090,670 lower
Today's price includes 25% sales taxRs 14,299,900Rs 12,469,513About Rs 1,830,387 lower

What this means: if both changes happened as reported, the gap would swing further towards the Tiggo 9. A Fortuner G could cost about Rs 13,678,500 and a Fortuner V about Rs 16,428,500, while a Tiggo 9 could fall to between Rs 12,469,513 and Rs 13,209,230 (all draft estimates). But this is the least certain part of the draft. The IMF has reportedly questioned lower sales tax on plug-in and range-extender cars, as covered in our report on the IMF's reported push for 18% GST on PHEVs and on IMF objections to the draft policy. If you book a Tiggo 9 now, ask Chery in writing what "tax locked" means if the rate falls. Does the lock protect you only from a rise, or would you get a lower rate too? For what is law today, read our hybrid and EV tax explainer.

Other SUVs to consider

For the full picture, browse our new SUV price list, the Chery range and the Toyota range, and our guide to hybrid car prices after 18% GST. For market context, see September 2026 car sales.

Bottom line

At Rs 14,299,900 with a free 7 kW charger, the Tiggo 9 PHEV gives you far more performance, equipment, safety kit and warranty than any Toyota Fortuner near its price, and it should cost much less to run if you charge it regularly. The Fortuner, from Rs 12,435,000 (G) to Rs 20,499,000 (GR-S), is still the better choice for real off-road use, for buyers far from a Chery dealer and for anyone who puts resale certainty first. If the draft Auto Policy 2026-31 becomes law as reported, the gap would widen in the Tiggo 9's favour, but until the cabinet and IMF sign off, those numbers remain draft estimates. We will update this page when Chery, Toyota Indus or the government changes anything official.

Chery Q vs MG Binguo EV: Which Electric Hatch Should You Buy?

Waqas Afzal9 Min Read

The new Chery Q enters Pakistan at an introductory PKR 5,554,000, while the MG Binguo EV currently sits at PKR 5,699,000 following its 2026 price reduction. That leaves an ex-factory difference of just PKR 145,000. The Chery counters with a larger battery, considerably more motor power, six airbags, an extensive ADAS package, faster quoted DC charging and longer warranty coverage, while the Binguo remains the smaller and simpler city-focused EV.

The XPeng L03 REEV costs about Rs 1.5m more than the Deepal S05 REEV Max (Rs 9.999m incl. freight) and buys a bigger 37.2 kWh battery, 123 kW DC charging and more power. The S05 wins on price, ground clearance, boot and a published 8-year battery warranty, so it is the better buy for most.

Suzuki Fronx ADAS vs GLX Hybrid: Is the PKR 100,000 Safety Upgrade Worth It?

Waqas Afzal9 Min Read

Pak Suzuki’s Fronx GLX 6AT Hybrid ADAS costs PKR 6,799,999 in mono-tone form, exactly PKR 100,000 more than the regular GLX 6AT Hybrid. For that relatively small premium, Suzuki adds autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, head-up display and several other upgrades. For buyers already considering the GLX Hybrid, the ADAS version makes a strong case on value.
