The e+ designation identifies the larger-battery ZE1 Leaf. The Japanese specification uses a 62 kWh battery and a more powerful electric motor than the standard 40 kWh model.
The official ZE1 e+ specification lists approximately 160 kW and 340 Nm. It accelerates more strongly than the 40 kWh Leaf while retaining front-wheel drive and a single-speed electric transmission.
The 2021 Japanese specification listed approximately 458 km on the WLTC cycle for relevant e+ grades. A used import's actual range depends heavily on battery health, speed, temperature and climate-control use.
Japanese-import ZE1 models commonly use Type 1 for AC charging and CHAdeMO for DC fast charging. The actual inlet, cable and local charger compatibility must be inspected.
Use a Leaf-compatible diagnostic scan to review state of health, cell balance, rapid-charge count and fault codes. The original range figure should never be used without checking degradation.
Its larger battery makes intercity use easier than a 40 kWh Leaf, but drivers must still verify compatible CHAdeMO charging stops and maintain a safe reserve.
It is a five-seat, five-door hatchback with a useful rear luggage area. Passenger and luggage load can reduce real driving range.
Check battery health, AC and DC charging, high-voltage warnings, underbody battery protection, 12-volt battery, tyres, accident or flood history and the correct charging cable.
