(+Ex-Factory Price)The BMW M3 CS is a limited-production four-seat performance sedan created for Australian drivers who want a lighter, more track-focused alternative to the M3 Competition, using a 405 kW version of BMW’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive to deliver 0–100 km/h in approximately 3.4 seconds. Carbon-fibre body panels, M Carbon bucket seats, model-specific adaptive suspension, forged staggered wheels and the standard M Driver’s Package give it exceptional circuit ability while retaining four doors, a useful boot and all-weather traction that make it more versatile than a dedicated two-seat track car. The 2023 M3 CS was a limited special edition and is no longer a current Australian factory-order sedan, so buyers should concentrate on provenance, complete service records, tyre type, track-use evidence, carbon-component condition, warranty coverage, originality and verification of the four-colour factory specification before paying a collector-level premium.

The BMW M3 CS was introduced in 2023 as the most focused road-going sedan of the G80 M3 generation. It used a specially tuned version of BMW M’s S58 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six, producing 405 kW and 650 Nm. Power was delivered through an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive all-wheel drive, allowing BMW to quote acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of approximately 302 km/h with the standard M Driver’s Package.
Weight reduction was central to the CS formula. Carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic was used for the bonnet, roof, front splitter, mirror caps, rear diffuser, boot spoiler, centre console and M Carbon bucket seats. A titanium rear silencer and reduced sound insulation also helped remove mass compared with the regular M3 Competition with M xDrive. The result was a sedan that retained four doors and four seats while delivering more immediate steering, braking and body control.
The chassis received model-specific adaptive damper tuning, revised axle geometry, unique spring and anti-roll-bar settings and forged 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. Track-oriented tyres were standard in some markets, so Australian buyers should confirm what is currently fitted and whether the tyres are suitable for rain, road temperature and everyday use. M xDrive provides strong traction, while 4WD Sport and the rear-wheel-drive mode available with stability control disabled give experienced drivers additional adjustability.
BMW Australia offered the M3 CS as a limited-production 2023 special edition rather than a permanent model. Its official local exterior choices were BMW Individual Frozen Solid White, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Black Sapphire metallic and BMW Individual Signal Green. The current Australian BMW range features the M3 Competition Sedan and the newer M3 CS Touring, but not the original M3 CS sedan as a normal new-car configuration. Available sedans are therefore likely to be used, collector-owned or BMW Premium Certified examples.
Inspection should focus on track-use history, stone chips, underbody damage, carbon-fibre repairs, wheel condition, tyre heat cycles, brake wear and suspension alignment. The standard carbon bucket seats should be checked for bolster wear and damaged exposed carbon, while the front splitter and bonnet require careful paint and structural inspection. A BMW diagnostic scan, complete digital service history and confirmation of software updates are important because the engine, all-wheel-drive system and chassis electronics are highly integrated.
Buyers should also compare the original factory build sheet with the car’s present specification. Replacement wheels, tyres, brake components or cosmetic carbon pieces may not match the original CS equipment, and modifications can affect value, road legality and warranty support. Because these cars can be used on circuits, fluid-change intervals, tyre dates and brake temperatures matter as much as odometer kilometres. Independent inspection by a BMW M specialist is strongly recommended.
For an Australian enthusiast, the M3 CS offers rare performance with more everyday practicality than a two-door track special. Its four-door body, boot and all-wheel-drive traction make it usable, yet the firm ride, loud cabin, expensive tyres, limited colour choice and costly carbon parts reduce daily convenience. Values depend heavily on originality, kilometres, service history and condition, so the best car is a documented example that has been maintained correctly rather than simply the lowest-priced listing.
